About Astra
A practical personal assistant experiment.
Astra Home is Finley Greenfield’s personal engineering project. The goal is to build a useful voice assistant that can hold a conversation, answer questions about a real calendar and control selected devices in one room. It is not currently a public product or customer service.

Personal context
With permission, Astra reads selected Google Calendars to answer questions about upcoming events and calendar-free time.

Room control
The V0 prototype can route validated actions to a Fire TV and two LED controllers on the local network.
Google Calendar integration
Calendar answers, with explicit permission.
Astra connects to Google Calendar only after the Google account holder completes Google’s consent flow.
- What Astra readsSelected calendar metadata, event titles and statuses, start and end times, and Free/Busy information.
- Why it reads itTo answer questions such as “What am I doing tomorrow?” and “When am I calendar-free this week?”
- How it is usedResults are processed by Astra during the current conversation. The default AI model runs locally on the owner’s Mac.
- Current permissionThe present OAuth grant includes event write access because write operations were tested during development. The V0 conversational assistant currently exposes Calendar reading and availability only.
Astra does not make the owner’s Google Calendar public. The public website does not connect to Google Calendar and has no account sign-in.
